This is the way you sharpen regular secateurs, but not Okatsune. They are made from extremely hard steel. No other garden tool in the World is made of steel that hard and the downside of it is that the edge is more brittle. Therefore, Okatsune pruners need to be sharpened on both sides. I planted trees for a friend of mine . I just did what she wanted, I have no idea about planting. I did this year's ago. But I noticed that fruit is growing. Now I am curious about gardening and want to make sure they grow better. Should I wait till fall and prune and also put down mulch?

Hi Lee we bought a Prunus Hally Jolivette Tree last month and planted it into the ground in our garden. All the leaves have fallen off and I thought it had died but 3-4 lovely green leaves have appeared so I think there’s hope. Have you any suggestions what we should do to help it please?

I don't even have plants anymore for a long time but still do have those gnats! I guess they're coming from something like a drain pipe Haven't tried yellow sticky pads or tape yet so maybe placing them around my suspected area would provide some results.

Posted June 2024. Hi, I've planted some fruit trees for privacy and fruit. But height and privacy are my priority. My trees are dwarf trees and will stop growing once they hit 3-4m according to Suttons. Should I allow them to hit their mature height before I start pruning for better yields? My bare root Victoria plum tree has added 4ft since it's initial hard prune when planted in early March 2024. It's doubled in height. As where my dwarf bare root Apple, Cherry and Pear trees have only grown 1-2 feet in that same time period.

I have a nice border hedge which birds hedgehogs live.i have noticed a section of the hedge is dying (about 8 feet).I have seen some fungus in that area and was wondering if it will kill the whole hedge which is about 30-40feet or can I cut out the dead section and replant?

I just planted two pear trees. The pear trees were already two years old so will see if they need pruned come late winter. Very easy process to follow. Like many others I will be nervous doing my first prune.

Can you please tell me where and what brand seep hose you used for the irrigation of your hedge. also the external / internal tube diameter. It looks to be a good substantial quality hose so would like to find same if possible. Thanks for your help. Struan.

Good of you to mention using a scythe. On half an acre that's an easy task. Also a June - July cut allows for butterflies like meadow browns, ringlets and day flying moths to lay their eggs on the freshly mown areas, as their caterpillars prefer short, sweet, fresh growth. I'm a scyther, so obviously I'm going with that as the only true way to manage a meadow traditionally. Plenty videos of me doing so on my channel, if anyone reads this far. A half acre could be done in one go within a couple of hours, but as you mention, mowing in sections over a period of a few weeks is much better.

3 yrs old, cut 1/3 last yrs, cut out dead/disased/crossing, cut back old growth by 1/3 - 1/2, cut back to outward facing bud. Missing were closeup views of dead or disased or undersized/under nourished canes or tiny off shoots.

Thanks for this review, the hand push model is on my shopping list as I'm considering a change of career. Without wanting to sound critical the wheels are obviously parts that they've gone cheap on as it's built to a lower end budget, this hasn't put me off in any way though

Hi Lee, I dead headed mine the other week and did it lower to where the leaves were and the newer roses near the spent one all went floppy??? Did I take too much off under the old rose or did i do it too soon ? Its a beautiful rose bush called "Loving Mum" and was brought for me not long after i sadly lost my mum 😢 this is its second year and its in a pot with rose compost and feed and is doing amazing just these other roses near where i deadheaded that are flopping!!!
